Reliance MetalCenter selected Layton to provide Design-Build services for the construction of their new expansion. The Design-Build delivery system was selected due to the complex requirements of the expansion project.

Within the expansion, Reliance required bridge cranes with 15 and 30 tons lifting capacities spanning distances of 75 and 100 feet. This, along with poor soil load capacities, provided our team with a significant challenge.
The coordination of the crane manufacturer, architect, engineers and construction manager were critical to achieve the proper design and engineering to meet the high loads on the building structure. To accommodate these significant crane loads, the Design-Build team needed to consider specialized foundation systems. The

Layton Design-Build team analyzed many different systems for performance and cost and after careful consideration selected a geo-pier system for the project. This is just one example of the many challenges the Layton Design-Build team resolved during the design and engineering of this project.

The Layton Design-Build team completed the Reliance MetalCenter project ahead of schedule and under budget allowing Reliance to maintain their position as the leading metals processor and distributor in the Intermountain Region.
