As the largest rail carrier in North America, Burlington North Santa Fe Railway (BNSF) needs to continually maintain their tracks and trains in order to provide the highest level of safety and efficiency to their customers. With their reputation as the most on-time railroad to consider, BNSF contracted with Layton to build three new reliability centers and maintenance sheds. Layton constructed all three buildings simultaneously, using a similar design, in three remote or rural areas.
The project involved the erection of three pre-engineered metal buildings with rail crane and exhaust systems. The sheds will be used to conduct exhaust and engine tests indoors. Maintaining adequate air quality for employees and locomotive operation is of paramount importance.
Work on these structures was performed near live tracks, requiring constant coordination with operations to maintain rail traffic and construction schedule. Layton used a railroad specific safety program and the NFR safety programs throughout the project, and construction was completed without incident. |
